SC&E Advisory Council

Advisory Council Mission
The SC&E Advisory Council has been created to assist in making the School of the Coast & Environment at LSU a responsive and effective partner with governmental agencies and the private sector as SC&E fulfills its mission: to provide knowledge, technology, and human resources for successful management of natural resources and resolution of environmental issues important to Louisiana, the Gulf of Mexico region, and comparable areas around the nation and the world.

Advisory Council Objectives
The SC&E Advisory Council, comprised of leaders from industry, government, and science, will provide extramural perspectives on program development in SC&E to LSU administrators. It will assist in determining what knowledge, technology, and human resources are needed and what natural resource and environmental issues are important. The Advisory Council will also facilitate cooperation between SC&E and governmental agencies and the private sector in teaching, research, and service programs.

Membership on the SC&E Advisory Council
Members who are nominated by faculty and alumni of SC&E normally serve three–year terms and may be asked to serve successive terms. Although representation from within Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico region is important, membership is not limited to individuals from Louisiana or the Gulf of Mexico region. The secretaries of the Louisiana departments of natural resources, environmental quality, and wildlife and fisheries are ex officio members of the Advisory Council. To cover the operational expenses of the Advisory Council and support other special activities in SC&E, voluntary donations of $1,000 per annum to the SC&E Development Fund in the LSU Foundation are sought from all regular members of the council and are welcomed from ex officio members as well.

Advisory Council Meetings
The SC&E Advisory Council normally meets as a group twice per year, and individuals or committees may meet more frequently.
