SC&E Member Consortia

SC&E, through LSU, is a member of LUMCON and of CORE.

LUMCON, the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium—LUMCON provides a stimulus for research and education in the marine sciences in Louisiana by being a service facility for all Louisiana schools with interests in marine research and education, and by conducting research and education programs. The LUMCON Marine Center provides well-equipped research and teaching laboratories in coastal Cocodrie. The setting is perfect for fieldwork on marine organisms and coastal ecosystems. A research vessel for the continental shelf and the open waters of Gulf of Mexico and one for coastal waters operate out of the Cocodrie center. Additional facilities are located on Vermilion Bay south of Lafayette and at Port Fourchon near Grand Isle. Many LUMCON researchers hold adjunct appointments with LSU and with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Biology Department.

CORE, the Consortium for Oceanographic Research and Education, is a Washington, D.C. based association of United States oceanographic research institutions, universities, laboratories, aquaria and industry. CORE’s 83 members represent the nucleus of U.S. research and education about the ocean.
