of Development - Major Gifts

and Environment

LSU has recently
announced the start of a $750 million capital campaign, in
which the School of the Coast and Environment will play a
leadership role.
This position is funded by the School of The Coast and Environment
and in part by the LSU Foundation. The Director of Development
is assigned and reports to the Dean of the School of the Coast
and Environment, and works in conjunction with the strategic
development environment with the LSU Foundation. The school
of the Coast and Environment seeks an aggressive and experienced
professional to implement a vast major gifts program in the
College.
Duties: Essential Job Functions
Create and enact a Major Gifts development program within
the School. Major Gifts Officer will identify, cultivate,
and solicit major gift support from individuals, corporations,
and foundations. Must communicate with all fund raising agencies
on campus, work with University administrators, faculty, and
staff to track and plan the identification, cultivation, and
contact with donor prospects. Provide support to the Dean
involving major gifts recruiting and cultivation.
The position will:
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit major
gift support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Identify alumni and utilize the School’s
donor/alumni on the university’s database
- In cooperation with the college’s
dean and with the LSU Foundation, work with department chairs
and faculty as well as the college’s advisory board.
- Write selected grants and grant proposals
(non-Federal).
- Assist with the management and recordkeeping
of the School’s Foundation fundraising; including
campaign planning and budget.
- Assist in the communication and coordination
of activities with fund raising agencies, including the
Alumni Association, LSU Foundation, LSU Assistant Vice Chancellor
for Institutional Advancement, Tiger Athletic Foundation
Offices, and outside parties.
- Attend events or meetings with volunteers
and staff as needed
- Be expected to travel extensively
- Be expected to occasionally work evenings
and weekends
- Perform other fundraising duties as assigned.
Qualification
Requirements: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited
college or university. Master’s degree credential desired.
Five to ten years experience of non-profit fundraising is
preferred but not required along with administrative experience
in a private, public or university setting. Must have excellent
interpersonal, administrative, and organizational skills.
Other recommended qualifications include: a track record of
soliciting and securing major gifts; familiarity with electronic
university advancement databases; experience working with
an advisory board and volunteers.
