Ronald D. DeLaune, Professor, Wetland Biogeochemistry Institute Adjunct Professor, Agronomy Department, Louisiana State University, 1984-present. Member of Graduate Faculty. Ph.D., University Wageningen, The Netherlands. B.S. and M.S., Louisiana State University.
Research Interests
Environmental issues, biogeochemical cycling, remediation of oiled wetlands, coastal restoration, soil-plant interactions, coastal marsh stability, sedimentation processes, wetland plant ecology, degradation and bioremediation of toxic organics, heavy metal chemistry, ecotoxicology, greenhouse gases. Actively invlolved in research dealing with environmental concerns associated with wetlands. These include fate and effect of petroleum hydrocarbons, freshwater diversion into deteriorating marshes, mercury pollution of Louisiana water bodies, use of solidifier in removing spilled oil in wetlands, method for remediating release of malodorous sulfur gases from wastewater treatment facilities, relationship between greenhouse gas emissions from wetlands to global warming, transformation and retention of pesticides/herbicides in wetlands and impact of nutrients on euthrophication in Louisianašs coastal zone. Interests also include maintaining analytical support and instrumentation necessary for maintaining a competitive research program. Author/Co-Author of over 250 technical referred publications which have been published in Estuaries, Estuarine Coastal Shelf Science, Nature, Limnology and Oceanography, Journal of Sedimentary Petrology, Environmental Pollution, Tellus, Aquatic Botany, Journal of Environmental Quality, Soil Science of America Proceedings, Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Environmental Science and Technology, Plant and Soil, Biogeochemistry, etc. Currently Principal or Co-Principal Investigator for research projects totaling over 2 million dollars.
